While many car brands pursue innovation, BYD stands out as a high-tech company that builds vehicles around its own proprietary technologies. The company integrates innovation into every aspect of vehicle design and production, emphasizing advanced engineering across its lineup. BYD’s technological prowess is evident in its remarkable pace of innovation, with the company filing an average of 45 patents per day – reinforcing its position as a true leader in automotive tech.

With ambitions to become a global automotive leader, BYD is focused on long-term growth. It is investing in local manufacturing in Europe, a key move to solidify its presence in the region. “By the end of this year, we will start production here in Hungary,” says Stella Li, BYD’s Executive Vice President. Emphasizing her broader vision, she adds, “We focus on building a high-quality dealer network and building a strong sales point in the industry. Then we can support the industry and take care of customers.” Through these efforts, she aims to build consumer trust and close the gap between technology and adoption in new markets.

Now looking to replicate its success in Asia and North America, BYD is addressing the distinct challenges of the European market. One key obstacle, according to Li, is the continent’s slower adoption of electric vehicles. “The challenge is we’re still in the early adoption stage for EVs. A lot of people still do not believe in the technology. They’re trying to figure it out,” she explains. Nevertheless, Li remains confident that BYD’s advanced innovations and strategic approach will resonate with European consumers and drive market transformation.

BYD: Build Your Dreams
Founded in 2003, BYD Auto is a subsidiary of BYD Company (Build Your Dreams), established in 1994. It is the only New Energy Vehicle (NEV) manufacturer that develops its own power systems, batteries, semiconductors, motors and control systems in-house. In November 2023, BYD became the first automaker globally to reach 10 million NEVs produced, a milestone that reflects its deep commitment to sustainable development.

As a multinational high-tech company, BYD is dedicated to leveraging technological innovation for a better future. It plays a critical role in the eco-friendly transformation of global transportation, focusing on the development of both pure electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. The company manages the entire value chain of EV technologies, including battery systems, electric motors, electronic controls and automotive-grade semiconductors. BYD is also the world’s first automaker to fully cease the production of fossil fuel-powered vehicles, reinforcing its leadership in the transition to electric mobility. For 12 consecutive years, BYD has led the sales of NEVs in China, and is now channeling that momentum into its European strategy.

Swiss Market Launch
To spearhead its Swiss entry, BYD has partnered with Harmony Auto, which operates more than 80 automotive retail locations globally. The first Swiss showroom is located at Uraniastrasse 31 in Zurich, with additional sites planned in Zug and other cities. Collaborating with Automotive Suisse, BYD will also open showrooms in Lugano and Bellinzona, aiming to establish a network of 15 locations across the country by the end of the year. All BYD models sold in Switzerland come with high-quality standard features and excellent value. Each vehicle includes a 6-year/150,000 km warranty, plus 8-year coverage for the battery and motor.
